INTRODUCING OPERATION HAND-UP! -Operation HAND-UP is specifically designed to find or provide employment for disabled Veterans. According to the VA Secretary Eric Shinseki at a VA-sponsored suicide prevention conference, about 6,000 veterans commit suicide each year. "That means, on average, 18 Veterans commit suicide each day." Many of these tragedies can be prevented by simply providing meaningful employment. Create A Business - There are about 25 million businesses in these United States, 99% of which are classified as ‘Small Businesses’. If ½ % of those businesses created just one job for a disabled Veteran, we would have no unemployed disabled Veterans - and you would reduce the number of unemployed Veterans considerably. The Veterans Journal, with your help, will create 1,200 jobs. Through its sister publication, ‘America’s Journal’ a national printed tabloid published weekly, 400 distributorships will be created. INSPIRATION - Just when you think that life can’t get any worse, someone comes up with an experience that makes your problems seem inconsequential in comparison. Self pity can sometimes get in the way of life. Most of us see life as a glass half empty, or half full - those that see life as a glass half empty are usually pessimistic, expressing a lack of hope or confidence in the future. The half full folks are usually optimistic, with hopefulness and confidence about the future or the success of something. Let me introduce you to quintessential optimism.

SUICIDE RATE SURGED AMONG VETERANS - U.S. Suicide Rate Surged Among Veterans - By Eli Clifton - WASHINGTON, Jan 13 (IPS) - Suicides among United States military veterans ballooned by 26 percent from 2005 to 2007, according to new statistics released by the Veterans Affairs (VA) department. "Of the more than 30,000 suicides in this country each year, fully 20 percent of them are acts by veterans,'' said VA Secretary Eric Shinseki at a VA-sponsored suicide prevention conference on Monday. "That means on average 18 veterans commit suicide each day. Five of those veterans are under our care at VA." The spike in the suicide rate can most clearly be attributed to the ongoing wars in Iraq and Afghanistan and the high number of veterans returning to the U.S. with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). nearly two million vets of Iraq and Afghanistan and we still haven't seen the type of mobilisation of resources necessary to handle an epidemic of veteran suicides,'' Aaron Glantz, an editor at New America Media editor and author of "The War Comes Home", told IPS. - To read more click here

UNEMPLOYED WOUNDED WARRIORS - OPERATION HAND-UP - Over 40,000 service members have been injured in the current conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan. It is further estimated that over 300,000 suffer from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) or depression. By listening to and surveying the warrior population, WWP has worked diligently to respond to PTSD and other injuries of this conflict like traumatic brain injury (TBI). Through innovative programs, services, and now technology, WWP in further connecting and finding resources for this generation of warriors. Fully engaging injured service members in the virtual world has been a key part of this strategy. Employers are afraid to hire recent vets, Leo "Three Sticks" Shane of Stars & Stripes reports, because of fear that PTSD and TBI could make them go postal. Actually I think it probably is more from fear that PTSD and TBI will drive up the costs of employer-provided health insurance. Whatever the reason, one of out five veterans under the age of 24 is out of work, the newspaper says. - To read more click here

AMERICA’S JOURNAL LLC - 'OPERATION HAND UP’ - OBJECTIVE: The objective is to provide permanent, meaningful employment to our wounded warrior community. METHOD: America’s Journal LLC is a printed weekly generic, gender-neutral newspaper, suitable for distribution to a national readership with an age range from 17 through 85 years. The parent publication will be produced by a proven professional staff, headquartered in San Diego, California, and printed throughout the United States to service distributorships. Each distributorship will market and sell local ‘Classified Advertising’, to be produced and printed as a companion publication (insert) to America’s Journal. We anticipate 400 distributorships employing 1200 wounded warriors, within a nine month period. Selected wounded warriors will be trained and set up to operate a distributorship at the agreed location of their choice, usually their own home town.
